It includes an upgraded DIGI+ VRM control module specifically for the Extreme Engine II, so you should source the AI Suite II file from your motherboards product page. NOTE: AI Suite II for ROG motherboards is DIFFERENT to standard P8/P9 series motherboards. NOTE: You can mix and match AI Suite II versions - the software will auto-detect the components and only update the latest version if you choose it. Download and install the version of AI Suite II with the latest Fan Xpert. We'll be using the Maximus IV GENE-Z in the guide, but it also applies to the Maximus IV Extreme, Extreme-Z, GENE-Z/Gen3 and entire Rampage IV series as well. It basically means you can throw out your 5.25in fan controller, as the software allows you to not only calibrate, but customize the performance:noise ratio of your entire case fan setup. The module we'll be guiding you through in this guide is Fan Xpert+ a complete, system-wide tool for customizing your fan control.

Within the suite there are several modules that do different functions. If you've not at least tried the latest edition of AI Suite II yet, please do, and see if it changes your mind. I have the CPU fan set to PWM mode on both PCs, so Fan Xpert 3 actually doesn't have any advantages for me.Word of mouth about installing bundled software might have used to say it's a thing to avoid, and we'll admit, it doesn't have the best history of value-add, however, ASUS is seriously attempting to buck the trend. Looking at my 2 previous boards, which is a Z170 board with Fan Xpert 3 & a H170 board with Fan Xpert 2+, the difference between them is that v3 has 'disabled/auto/DC mode/PWM mode' in its CPU Q-Fan Control, while the v2+ only has 'disabled/PWM mode'.

Apart from a quote " Fan Xpert 4 featuring Fan Auto Tuning function and multiple thermistors selection for optimized system cooling control ", which is just marketing speak. However, I've found no practical details about Fan Xpert 4. But if Fan Xpert 4 would have a useful feature compared to a slightly cheaper sibling with v2+, I'd probably spend the extra money on a board with v4. I don't need a highend board, cause I'll go for a 65W TDP midrange CPU and don't intend to do overclocking. Looking at the current offerings I see cheaper boards with Fan Xpert 2+, while the more expensive boards have Fan Xpert 4. High on my list of priorities is quiet cooling, and like on my current desktop I'd like to use the Fan Xpert feature again to dynamically control the fan speeds based on the CPU temp. I've had many Asus boards over the years, and most likely my next one will be from that brand once again. I'm looking for a new mobo for a new build after the summer.
